Before the VIII Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean in November 2023 in Barcelona, several Spanish civil society organizations gathered and organized themselves in working groups to write a joint statement denouncing the normalization of the externalization of borders as foreign and interior policy of the EU and its member states. „For a Mediterranean and Global South Where Life is Respected: For Migration and Asylum Rights“ was addressed to the Mediterranean states and the EU in the occasion of Forum during the Spanish presidency of the European Council.
